Franklin Freewheelers, Inc.
Annual Meeting
Minutes
The annual meeting of the Franklin Freewheelers, Inc. Bicycle Club was held, pursuant to notice, Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 6:30 o’clock p.m. at the Franklin County Library, 355 Franklin Street, Rocky Mount, Virginia.
The meeting was called to order by Tim Bussey, President. A treasurer’s report was given by Carol Bussey, Secretary/treasurer. The club now has 28 members, representing about 80 individuals. The checking account had a year-end balance of $1,204.87. This was a decrease of $6.71 from the previous year-end. Income was from dues and clothing sold, with expenses remaining about the same. The biggest expense was purchase of clothing for sale, of which all the socks ordered have not been sold.
The next order of business was election of officers for 2009. There was a call for nominations from the floor. After no nominations were made, a motion was made and seconded that the same officers continue through 2009. The officers are:
Tim Bussey - President
David Wiseman - Vice President
Carol Bussey - Secretary/treasurer
In the Vice President’s report, David Wiseman gave a review of some of the cycling related accomplishments and events club members were involved in during 2008. The trail building project continues at Philpott Lake and in to Franklin County. The Franklin Freewheelers have an agreement with the Corp of Engineers to do 100 hours of community service toward the project in the next two years. We more than met our commitment for 2008 and have already spent some hours toward 2009.
In 2008 we decided to recognize the Callaway Rescue Squad with a plaque for their service to the community and pledged to make a donation to the Franklin Co. Humane Society for their new building. The total cost of these two awards was not to exceed $200. Since this was not accomplished, it was decided to make these recognitions in 2009.
The ride schedule will be the same as last year. There will be two organized rides each month April through November. They will be the first Saturday and the third Sunday of the month. There will be a weekly road ride on Thursday evenings beginning April 2, 2009. We will also be coordinating rides with the newly formed Henry County Bicycle Club, and doing some rides on the Blue Ridge Parkway with a bag or pot luck lunch to follow. Several area rides and tours were also discussed for members to participate in.
After some discussion, it was decided to place one more order, probably mid-summer, for our current jersey/short design. We will then solicit design ideas for our next jersey pattern, anticipating placing our first order in 2010.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Secretary/treasurer
